Effective Design-Build Teams

Program Description: Program attendees will develop a greater understanding of different roles and responsibilities for the design/build team as compared to traditional design/bid/build contracting; identify critical importance of shared team goals and expectations, and how to create and maintain them during project performance; understanding and implementing owner objectives; implementing contract management practices that allow achievement of owner performance objectives while minimizing excessive owner approvals and other delays; insurance issues for the design/build team; and achieving the right teaming relationship to accommodate how individual decisions and actions impact the entire design/build team and project. Prerequisite: None, however, attendees at a beginner-intermediate level may also wish to attend Critical Issues Confronting the A/E in Design/Build, to obtain a basic understanding of concepts discussed in greater detail within this program to improve team performance and results. Learning Objectives: 1. Learn how to adjust the traditional designer, contractor and owner roles and responsibilities to improve design/build team effectiveness. Guide project owners to adopt appropriate practice procedures to achieve successful design/build project results. 2. Understand the techniques to manage owner involvement to achieve overall owner goals when using design/build contracting. 3. Identify project management practices and tools that increase effective project communications, trust and shared interests in achieving the common goal of successful design/build project completion. Presenter Jerry Novacek is the design-build authority for national management consulting firm ZweigWhite. Jerry was the former National Director of Design-Build for HDR, Inc. He has authored numerous articles and presentations on design-build contracting.
