Description: One of the barriers to wider use of design-build are concerns of the new ethical dilemmas this delivery method presents. Program attendees will learn how to address typical concerns, review important elements of the Engineer's Code of Ethics which may arise in design-build contracting and identify common ethical problems, such as conflicts of interest and considering who represents the interest of the project owner and the public welfare and safety.
This program will also identify sources of guidance and assistance in resolving ethical issues; constructive use of ethical obligations in dealing with unreasonable clients, employers, or design-build team members and use of ethical obligations to raise the stature of the engineering profession.

Learning objectives:

1. Understand ethical obligations and how they relate to contemporary professional practice in design-build contracting.

2. How to approach and resolve common ethical dilemmas, including where to obtain guidance and resources.

3. Implement ethical obligations in a positive manner to deal with unreasonable client, employer or design-build team requests and expectations.
